Hi guys, this is my first post. My apologies if I make some mistakes, not quite sure how to get around yet.

So we have ordered a beautiful couple of Coral Banded Shrimp and it just arrived!! :) But there is a problem, she's pregnant!! Her stomach is blotted and we can even see the eggs when looking closely. The couple is still aclimating. But we are not sure what to do.

Should we release mom shrimp in the tank or perhaps put her separated? what about the babies? Is there any chance that the babies will make it?

I hope someone out there can help us with this. Don't want the babies to become other fish's food if there is anything we can do. :D

Thank you very much guys.

There isn't much you can do, I don't think anybody has successfully kept the fry alive (except for a few very dedicated breeders that work in coral farms).

Go ahead and put her right in. The larvae will be eaten by fish and corals (a healthy meal) and the rest will go into the filter. The larvae will not survive in the tank and would require a specialized circular tank to keep them suspended in the water column and away from any filters, rocks, everything. The reason they are so difficult to raise is that they remain in this fragile, pelagic (open water) stage for approximately 50-60 days and must be fed special live food. If you have a pair, they will likely spawn often and provide a great meal to the rest of your aquarium inhabitants.

Oh I see, thank you for your information guys. I went ahead and placed her right in as Bongo shrimp suggested... they are looking great. I am glad that I asked.

We have baby Banggai Cardinal Fish in a separate tank, been fed with brine shrimp. do you think I could feed them with the coral banded shrimp larvae? I have 2 months olds and 10 days olds.

Thank for taking your time to make it so clear Bongo Shrimp. :D appreciate it...

You're welcome! I would absolutely catch any shrimp larvae you can and feed them to the babies. Super nutritious and they will love chasing the larvae. Since you don't know how long she has had the eggs and we can't know for sure when they will hatch, check the tank with a flashlight about 30 mins to an hour after lights out. The larvae are attracted to light and if you turn off the pumps, many will gather at the flashlight and you can turkey baste them up or if you don't have a turkey baster, an air line siphon will work. Then feed to baby fishies.
