Im thinking of getting one of these today because they look sweet, but read a lot about them eating/ picking at corals. Any one have an opinion about them?
thanks joe

Make sure that you do not want anyother shrimp in the tank. My understanding is that they will take out cleaners, pepperments and other shrimp. Not sure about other crabs or snails. JMO

Consider the gold/orange color variety because they stay smaller than the red/white ones. They are more expensive though. I never heard of them eating coral but i have heard of large ones eating small fish and other small shrimp.

i have a pair of yellow ones. they are ok with my pistol and peppermint shrimp and really dont seem to bother anything. they are smaller than the normal ones

I had one that basically took out everything in my tank..sucker was MEAN! He ate any snails and crabs in the tank and tried to get any fish. Finally had to put him in the sump.

thats what i thought. wanted to make sure you werent in a little one horse town in ohio i had never heard of. welcome

My coral banded took out my cleaner shrimp onoe by one. He also chases what ever fish gets in his way and occasionally find battle scars where he has managed to get a claw burried in the side of a fish.

my corals are all soft or lps. maybe that matters?
Mine were all soft at that time...but from what I read I got the bad apple of the group, as it doesn't happen too often.

I've had a mated pair for years. They've never harmed any of the corals in the tank. It's a given that they won't get along with other shrimp, although a pistol should be able to hold it's own.
