Coral Beauty - Reef safe or NOT?

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of cycling a 36g bow and I'm trying to plan my livestock.

I've seen lots of people on here who have coral beauties, but I keep reading they can nip at SPS and softies. Please share your experiences with them.

I won't have the time to maintain a full reef. I'm planning on FOWLR and maybe a few zoos or shrooms.

Any advise is welcome! Thanks in advance!

I've never had SPS, but I've never seen a coral beauty bother soft corals. I've also had them with several kinds of LPS corals and didn't see them bother those either. I think it's clams and SPS that are the ones they may nip at, and like most dwarf angels, it's kinda random.

I currently have one and it is a fantastic fish (and model citizen). Loves to grave on algae. When I had zoo and shroom colonies it never touched them. I've since had to take them out after my Lattice Butterfly demolished both.

Mine has never gone after any corals. I feed a few times a day though. He doesn't graze on the rock much. Likes to pick on snails on the glass but just knocks them off. I've got LPS, SPS, shrooms and BTA.

Mine was a model citizen for a year and then decided it liked to pick at my clams. After the clams, it picked on every coral in the tank. It took me a month to trap it and take it back to the LFS.

They're about 50-50. It's impossible to predict, even if they've been good in one tank, they may take a liking to something in another tank.

nam's experience is not uncommon, where they're good for a while, and then suddenly start eating things you don't want them to.

My CB is great in my tank, eats from my hand and loves hanging out with my tomato clown. I have a leather toadstool, (2) button colonies, open brain, cabbage leather, and goniopora. The CB (Jub Jub) goes crazy for flake and frozen emerald entree; nothing else. HTH!

Mine was a complete terror. It was VERY territorial in my 65G tank. It wouldn't let the clowns go any where in the tank except the very top corner. I added two fire fish one day and she consistentently chased them; then I found both dead in the morning. It nipped at my Yasha Haze goby (avatar) and wouldn't let it sit on the sand like it wanted to. Not to mention it nipped at my softies. I'm curious to hear how long people had a CB in their tank and still say it was reef safe. Mine was great for about 8 months until it turned into a devil. I was happy to get rid of her and probably won't ever add another angel. Good bye and good riddens!

i've had my cb in its tank since october i believe. it's so far a great addition, never touching any of the mushrooms, lps or polyps in there. the only thing i see it nip is the live rock where some algae is growing. it loves spirulina flakes, f2, mysis, krill, prime reef & pellets. definitely a piggy! i don't have a clam with it though, so can't comment on that. it's peaceful with the blenny i have & the perc. actually, the blenny is more territorial than the cb and occasionally chases the cb off when it comes too close to its favorite perch.

I've had mine for over a year, around 18 months. I do feed alot. I have two anthias. Every once in a great while he'll square off with the female clown. Every once in a while he'll get aggressive with the male lyretail but nothing really. I think he wants to be the boss but it isn't happening. I have a 90g 3x2x2 tank with lots of rock.
I can believe every fish is different. I would say they are more than 50-50 reef safe.
I do feed alot which I think helps.

Mine is an angel. Doesn't mess with anything and even survied the terror of my purple tang until they got used to each other

I had mine for six months before he started to nip at my Green star polyps. I replaced him for a lemon angel. as for the CB its in my friends 150 with a Elibi angel.

I wanted to get one for a long time but decided not to take a risk on my SPS and Clams. My recommendation is NOT so you can sleep better
