Coral beauty?

Are coral beauty's generally reef safe. I know that there are exceptions to every fish. What have been your experiences with them? Also would he be allright with a small yellow tang?

It seems the bigger your tank the less likely they are going to nip.

Most say its a 50/50 chance. How would you get him out if he did start nipping? Plan ahead.

I think the term "reefsafe" is misleading, especially since it's used so often and seems to confer some sort of Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on a species. Angels nip corals in the wild - it's simply what they do. Yes, there is anecdotal evidence of these animals "behaving themselves" in some reefs, but that is by no means an indication of what any other individual, even of the same species, will do. It's really too bad, because they're gorgeous fish - my favorites for shape and colors. I loved my coral beauty. It was a model citizen for over 6 months, then started nipping the open brain coral.

My new reef setup will not have any angels, much as I'm tempted to try "one more time." But there's no guarantee - even after months in your tank.

mine started out great, recently he has become a pest. hes constantly nipping at corals(no real damage though), and he is always harassing the other fish. some days i feel like flinging him across the room LOL. but it is a beautiful fish.

I was told to watch my CB to make sure he didn't nip at my zoas. Only saw him do it once, I fed him a he left them alone. And it may have just been curiosity, he hasn't done it since. As a precaution, I just make sure to feed him well.

I have a Coral Beauty in my 100g Reef tank and it's been no problem for 2 years. I have a combination of all corals in my tank.

Well, here is a picture I just took. The Sarcophyton is getting borderline huge. :D Good thing I'm planning a bigger tank.

WOW, I love your sohal tang.

What are your plans for his future? They need 500g+ when full grown right?

I've had no problem with mine. I've also got a Flame Angel. The Coral Beauty chased him around for 2 days and now the co-exist.

That's a beautiful picture Layne!

Yeah, they can grow to 16".

I've got plans going on right now to have a glass 10'x2'x3' (450g) reef in-wall tank ... plus this 100g to be turned into a refugium.

It is a beautiful fish.

And I appreciate your concern. Good to have reefers like you around. ;)

Thanks Ralph. It turns 5 years old in 3 weeks. :)

I don't think that I am going to risk a coral beauty but I have to think about it. Maybe after I get a fish trap. Thanks again for the info.
