Hey everyone. I have mostly softies and LPS in my tank. I was wondering what you guys recommend feeding them. I hear phytofeast is a really good product. Should I give them zooplankton as well?

I'd go Phytofeast, not much else as it is unnecessary with softies and LPS. Anything more would simply pollute your tank and can cause problems down the road.

Thanks. What about supplements. What do you use? I've been using reef solution. That's what the lady at O street told me

I've got a large bottle of PhytoFeast that I won't be able to completely use before it expires. You're welcome to half of it. Just let me know.

I think as a general rule, you shouldnt add anything you don't test for.

Phosphate and Nitrate would be what you should test for. As far as "coral food" goes, start out small and infrequently until you figure out what's right for your tank based on it's bio-load. It's extremely easy to O.D. on liquid foods and the effects may not manifest themselves for several months. Just be careful with anything you put in the tank besides water and salt.

two more questions. i used to use reverse osmosis water but i've tested the ph after mixing with salt and found it to be low. then i tested using tap water and the ph seemed to be about the right level. which should i use?

I myself have been using reef solutions for a while and the jury is still out.

If you do frequent water changes, especially with like the reef crystals, probably don't need it.

I did notice that my corraline faded when I ran out and wanted to see any adverse or better results without it.

My current theory is that because I change 20gal of 75gal once a month rather than the weekly change, I would like to think it helps keep up the trace elements between water changes and the skimmer uptake. But I realize, since I don't test for any other traces, I don't have a proper reference.

Since I have recently have plunged into SPS, I am more concerned and plan to test for Mg now, but other than that........I havn't noticed a change positive or negative using the Reef Solutions. I think the key is water changes. My corraline and SPS grew a lot this last week because I did that monthly water change a week earlier......probably due more to fresh salt than the Reef Solutions.

I feed Coral Vibrance to all my corals at my store. I love the stuff. I feed 2-3 times a week and they respond almost immediately when it's added. I also feed many of my LPS and some of my zoas mysis...they seem to do much better, IMO, when fed regulary. PPE's will eat a whole mysis each. The secret is not to over feed. GL, Marcye
