Coral help...

Struggling corals...
I have a 150 mixed reef. My toadstool leather and clove polyps won't open and I see the polyps withering away. I have other corals in the tank that are more sensitive and are doing great. I have moved them to different spots with no luck.
My current calcium is at 450. My biggest problem I think is the heat produced by my MH. All my levels are at 0. My Ph is at 8.1. Alk is in range I was told by my LFS. I just put two fans in at opposite ends of the tank. My temp. is between 80-82.
Do I need to invest in a chiller, ouch $$$. Can I add more fans? Is this my problem?
My current tank consits of:

Scroll, pagoda, hairy mushrooms, palys, cabbage lethers, open brain, yumas, frogspawn. All are doing well.

Any advice or help would be truly appreciated.

This is a zoanthid forum.

hahahahahahahahah that was really funny.

80-82 is not your problem by the way. IMO you should recheck your levels.

It's just I didn't see a single zoa in that tank. That temp isn't bad--mine reaches those temps in the summer w/o problems. I have a 3-speed fan over my sump. Best place to put it is over where the water aggitates the most from the overflow. More surface area to cool.

What kind of clove polyps? Pinks, I can't get rid of of & the fancier ones, I've never been able to keep. Leathers always wither & then come back.

Where are the cloves located in your tank? If the flow is too much it will cause them to melt away, they usually do best in low flow areas. One thing I've noticed is that the aquacultured cloves seem to be easier to keep. Also people have told me that they do better in nutrient rich tanks (sps tanks).

I would frag your clove colony and place them in different area's and see what happens.

The toadstool is opening more. The cloves are at the top in direct range of a tunze. They were great there for about 2 months and now all of a sudden are wethering away. I will try moving them and see if that works. thanks again for the advice.
