I bought an acan frag pack about a year ago - but I don't think this is an acan. Can someone give me an ID on it?

Thanks!

The individual polyps when expanded are about the size of a quarter. I've had a favites before and this doesn't look anything like it.

Does the coral get long sweeper tentacles at night, or just those short feeding tentacles?

It looks like a member of the Faviidae Family.

not an acan its some type of lobo or in the same famaly. If you notice the front pollyps has 3 mouths. Acan are single mouth pollyps

That's a SUPER ATOMIC Japanese Acanthastrea maxima Micromussa.
I'm going to have to agree....

Seriously though... I dont know but they sure are sweet looking.

just saw the same thing in my LFS ... the folks who work there are very knowledgeable (seriously) and they argued over what type of brain it was for a while. It is some type of brain. That is all I know, sorry.

any chance of getting a shot from farther away? there is no way to really judge polyp size. with no skeleton, and not even something for size reference, any ID is totally impossible. Its cool looking though
