Coral/ Live Rock Advice?

So I have officially set up and have running my 90gal display, drilled- with a 20L sump and a 30gal frag tank and a hob fuge (I'll put up some pictures in a bit)

I have all of my livestock in a 15gal holding tank right now as my new system cycles. The piece of live rock I have below is the only chunk of rock I had in my old tank- it has a bunch of coral on it. but is covered in mostly green algae- something that I don't really want to transfer over to my new system. I'd like some nice coraline please and thank you.

Anyway- So I am planning to stick this rock in my sump until the algae dies off, but I have a pretty large red monti cap growing on it, and I don't know how to go about removing it- I have read that they just "pop off" if you put pressure in the right place- but if I try that I end up just cracking nice pieces off... any suggestions?

by the way- the picture below is the monti in light shock when I first got it, it has since grown a lot larger and looks not gross like that-

If scrubbing the rock is out of the question, you could try putting it in a container with a powerhead, light, heater and a few mexican turbo snails. It shouldn't take more than a couple days for the snails to figure out that rock is their only food source and strip it clean.
