coral newbie here

Just a quick but about me. I have kept freshwater tanks for 10+ years and I have kept fowlr tanks in the past, roughly 3-5 years experience. I've gotten some literature on corals and have been reading up, however I thought I would ask those who are active in the hobby on their suggestions for some good begginer corals as well as anemone. I'm doing all my research now before I even begin to set up my tank (I found out I'm getting a 28g nano for xmas). I'd also like to know if anyone has a nano if they have any tips on setting it up well. Thank you all in advance. :)

Tanks should be atleast six months old for a nem. Alot of softies and Lps corals are good. You could do some zoa, mushrooms, leathers, It all depends on your setup. Lights, filtrarion, and husbandry skills. I don't miss a day without staring at my tank for atleast an hour.

I agree with staring at the tank. Also with starting out with softies. I started with palys and zoas. Or a great beginners coral like a kenya tree.

Thank you for the input. I also find myself staring at my tanks for hours. It's just so peacful. Now for the corals once I have a cycled tank (I'm looking to add corals and fish after at least 6 weeks maybe 8) would those coral suggestions be okay, or should I go with just some fish and work my way from there. I can easily manage fish only has I have done so in the past (the only reason I don't have a tank currently is due to moving). I'm just not familiar with corals. Also I will running mechanical filtration which I am uneasy with. In the past I have used solely biological filtration (to some it may seem insane but with the help of my lfs back home was easy to set up and maintain). Thanks again for the input, I'm glad to see knowledge and advice from this community and I hope I will be able to show off something spectacular.

Get plenty of LR. I,have a 24g nano. I'd Definately replace the lighting. I took my hood off and out a USA orbits light on mine. Still not as good as it could be but it's a hell of a lot better.

Kenya trees can spread like wildfire. They are listed as a beginner coral because it's hardy. Beyond that...just be aware they can take over a tank quickly if not kept on top of...esp. in a 28g. Try something like a leather or a mushroom. I started with a few Ricordea Floridas....While not cheap, I must say they are hardy as well.

Once you get your live rock in and your tank cycled, water parameters good, I would also recommend stuff likes zoas and mushrooms. They are cheap and easy. I also think Euphilia like Frogspawn and Hammers are actually very hardy and very beautiful. Most people enjoy the wavy-type corals. One of my first corals was a frogspawn and it's become huge.
Also, check your area for frag swaps. You will get way better deals than buying corals individually. Good luck on your new tank.
