ive got a leather a friend of mine gave me. he cut it off of one of his and attached it to a rock. now theres a little feather duster lookin thing on it and its not opening up as much as it used to when i first got it. do i take it off? is it hurting the coral?
NOPE.
leathers will shrink once in awhile (almost once a month). They do this to i) slough off any detrivous etc off their skin. (Think of a snake sloughing of its skin).
ii) You will notice that the leather once it "opens" again will be bigger.
The first signs of trouble are the lack polyp extension. If you dont see any polyps for a week or so, then look for signs of trouble.
