Coral shading

Hi guys

What is the long term effects of corals that end up partially shading its lower neighbours?
For arguments sake let’s say half the coral is under full light but reduces towards the other side

I don’t believe there’s any detrimental long term effects as long as it’s getting light. You may see a color change in the shaded area or even slower growth. If it’s completely shadowed and mostly dark, there is the possibility that portion of the coral could die off. See below (not my pic but general representation of color change and possibly die off at the base - according to the poster, this one is shadowing itself)

Thanks for the reply , I guess unless we can provide side lighting (90 degrees ) at the sides weel always get this

Yep. Having multiple lights reduces the effect, but as the coral grows, there will always be some degree of shading causing the affected area to lose color or even die off
