Coral Toxins or the Flu?

Last night I was transfering some softy corals betweens tanks (Pulsing Xenia, Mushrooms, Zooanthids and Kenya Tree Coral). I normally wear gloves for this sort of thing ever since I heard the story about the poor guy's dog dying after drinking change water from a stressed softy tank due to Paleo toxins in the water from button polyps. Last night I didn't think I was going to have a lot of contact with the corals as was going to be just moving rocks. It wound up I did peel a few pieces of the Kenya Tree, Zooanthinds and Xenia off of a couple of the rocks with my bare hands. I did wash them after with soap and warm water. About 4am I woke up with the worst shakes, headache, fever, nausea, diariha and cough. I am wondering if I just had the flu or if coral toxins had gotten in my system and I was feeling the effects of these? I still feel weak and sick today but am improving. Has anyone had a similar experience or am I looking too deep into this - there isn't much info online about coral toxins and there side effects. Thanks!

Yeah, go to the MD and mention you have a reef tank with all that stuff in it so he/she doesn't just pass it off as "the flu". It might be just the flu. Better to be safe than sorry though.

fishinchick mentions being almost killed by button polyps in a thread about being bitten by fish. You may want to pm her and ask about sypmtoms.
