With many local club members recommendations I purchased A Super Skimmer. I'm still impressed with the bang for the buck you get with this skimmer.
It is very simple to clean and service. Stock it performs very well. For the DIY'er there are many mods that canbe performed to up its performance even further. Can be found if you do a search in the Lighting, Filtration and Equipment Forum as well as the DIY forum. I currently run the CSS 125
Its my 1st experience with a skimmer so I honestly have nothing to compare it to. I also have an ASM that i have yet to use and won't until we move. Which is soon coming.
To say the least i am very happy with its function and reliability.
IMO no.. Its like anything else.. If the pump is not touching anything then there is little to no noise. Mine is hanging on the side of my sump in my stand. The pump seems of good quality and in my case runs very quiet.
Only thing i hear in my sump is my return pump. A Rio 14HF which needs togo. Next upgrade.
I've been using the 225 model since january, I'm very pleased with it, the only noise i hear is cooling fans on my lights....u get a lot of bang for the buck
I've got a CSS 65 on a 25 gallon tank. Make sure you put it through the full 72 hour break-in period before you tweak the settings. It keeps my water crystal clear and my water parameters remain good.
