Coralimorph behaviour question

I have 2 coralimorphs ... 1 is a double plate(?) and the other is strange (to me) It stays put but is very active in it's size. It can be anywhere from the size of a quarter, to that of a silver-dollar-pancake like this

. I have seen it kind of close up so it lools like the center part of a daffodil, but tonight it looked like some kind of dunkin donut :eek1: Got out the camera and this is how it looked by then :

Can someone tell me what causes this kind of behavior?? It's pretty neat, but want to know if it is trying to tell me something?!?
