Corals for my Empores Angel

I am curious what corals you guys have had luck with keeping with your angels. I know that it kind of depends on the fish. But I just had to have this angel in my 210.

SPS with emperor. But LPS is at risk.

I would agree in general, but even SPS can be at risk. I feed my fish a ton and my Juve. Emperor still picked at some SPS. Mushrooms are the only thing they really won't pick it IMO, but SPS should be ok for the most part.

I have a moorish Idol and an emperor ...

they pick on everything ...

my SPS grow fast, so I do not mind it ... but not my LPS :S I had to move a couple of my more expensive LPS cause they were just eating it away.

nori helps alot, specially if its packed tightly so the fish has to bite and pull to get it ...

my auto feeder feeds the tank 8 times a day too ... the days I turn that off, they eat more corals .

Explain your auto feeder set up. This must be extremely small ammounts other wise I would think you would have nitrate problems.

if export = import, then no Issues:)

Issues only happen, when you input more food, than you are exporting [water changes, skimming, fuge, bacterioplankton]

my system is ran on Zeovit, I do large water changes 2 times a week. large one on the weekends, and a smaller one at the middle of the week[I take the water out skimming wet] I skim super wet, have alot of water movement so nothing can settle anywhere and run filter socks and more ... there is a whole other reefing style on the heavy stocking side with SPS corals :)

my water change bucket using skimmer overflow :

with that said, I use 2 Eheim auto feeders to feed pellets and flake mixed, feed nori manually, and Mysis at night when I get home ... 2 cubes of hickari mysis just thaw and drip into tank while Im at work ...

HOly crap that is alot of feeding. I must say you are the man though cause that seems like a ton of work. If I did that many water changes I would go broke buying salt.

naaa, cant say that lol my tanks are no where close to the tanks of great reefers we have here.

PS. for more info on these, read Copps TOTM articles. I got most of these Ideas from him... now HE IS THE MAN ! lol also alot of European reefers ... you can learn ALOT reading their articles.

good luck :)

On big tanks, salt is just one of the costs actually. Electricity is the most expensive. I know it is for me and I have about 350 gallons of total water and do weekly water changes totaling about 40 gallons.

I am amazed at how much you feed though. I thought I fed a ton and that is dwarfing me. Granted my 210 isn't overstocked really yet because everything is still relatively small.

+1 on electricity ... cost of salt, compared to other stuff is neglectable ...

I was the same with my dog ... he was not living in his natural habitat, so I fed him as much as I could, so in his next life he can brag to free dogs that at least he had the most/best food ... :P haha

instead of adding coral foods and amino acids, I just feed my fish ALOT, and good foods, with AAs, so they can consume it, be happy and fat,, fight less and pick on my corals less, while their poop serves as the best food for my corals, as its rich in Vitamines, and also feed my zooplanktons. lastly, one of the most amazing sights of a reef is feeding frenzy to me ...when all small and big fish come out and eat ...

so I basically adjust my feeding, with how my corals look .. pale = more feeding [which I do not see with this much food] and brown or algae = feed less ... [I usually cut on mysis ... as I feel like the NLS pellets are really good at coloring up fish. and holding up vitamines.]

I just had to smile at that comment :)
