corner chip in glass tank

I am working on setting up this 80g when I was moving it in my garage I chip one of the corners of the tank. It is still water tight, but I am concerned this could lead to a future failure. The tank is currently storing about 120 pounds of LS, and it is dirty.

Should I abandoned this tank, or will it hold up?

All advice will be greatly appreciated.

thats a pretty deep hit. i would be extremely cautios when filling it "IN THE BACKYARD" before anything. if you choose to use it i would get a professional bubble level, not a cheap one. i use the one for leveling machinery and it (Starret) cost about $500.00. i'm not aware of anyway to fix it that would be trustworthy. i'm gonna leave this one to you, sorry. hate to see that happen. i would use it for a sump or refugium if i had the space and need for it though.

That is pretty deep.. Not sure if it safe to use. I wouldn't use it but that's just me..

I agree with the previous posters, that is a bit too deep of a chip for me. If I set it up, even if it held water, I would have many a sleepness night wondering/worrying about it.

I agree I would be very nervous. Could be quite possible theres a hairline crack that you may not see as well, but could come into play once the water and weight were to come on. I would venture to say the integrity of the seal could be jeapordized as well. Big time drag man, very unfortunate.

Man, wow that sucks..... It is pretty deep. I do have a 20g that has a chip like that. I put some silicone on it, but its holding tight. Not as much weight as that tank.

Only thing I could think would be to get some glass and glue it to that area to reinforce it.

BUt better safe then sorry.

I second this one, John.

I won't even use this tank even in my garage. Eighty gallons of water and 120 lbs of sand would be a pita to deal with when the "ticking time bomb" explodes.

I am picking my 100g in the morning before the frag swap. The 80 is going out to the shed to store LS in until I get the 100g ready. once the 100g is up and running I am thinking about seeing if I can recycle the glass on the 80g. The problem is that my DIY skimmer will not fit under just any stand, so I have to rebuild the stand. luckily I had not put the veneer on just yet. However I am liking the idea of an extra 12 inches of tank space.
