corner tanks good bad?

I am still studying about reef tank owning (extensive reading) and I have finally gathered that if i want to own a permanent tank, i would like a corner one.

eg like this

and make the overflow in the center back where the bend is.

my worries are these

1- would a tank in that design be hard to maintain
2- will i need more pumps to increase the water flow? (i plan to get those ecotech vortech pumps whenever i get the tank in like 1 or so yrs)
3- has anyone ever owned such a tank or has one now, could you give me feedback about them, if theyre harder or easier?

While an "L" shaped tank will be different than a rectangle I think with planning, it shouldn't be much harder to maintain.

You may need to experiment with pumps to get the flow you want, but even people with regular tanks have to do that.

Hopefully someone here has an "L" and will chime in.

Good luck!

as far as maintenance...I don't see it being too much more than your standard tank. For water flow though...that could be iffy. Especially since the tank on the link is quite tall. You would need a good spread for the flow. I would also be leery about it for a reef tank as you'll need some pretty nice halides to reach the bottom of that tank ( = $$$). Goodluck with it though, and welcome to RC

That would be a nice setup to have... and from the looks of it you can make it any height that you want. So depending on how much you are willing to spend on lighting, you might want to limit how high you have them make the tank.

thanks, i was thinking of making my own custom tank, that was just an example of the tank design.

length on both sides- 1.2 m
width- 90-1m
height - 70-90cm

it wont be very tall

Flow issues:

A good friend of mine had a very similar setup. We found that the flow worked best if you have the PH on one side of the tank mounted near the top, and mounted near the bottom on the other side of the tank.

When mounted on the top on both sides, the water would meet in the middle and make a mess of the substrate.

Hope that helps.
