It cleans off relatively easy with a kitchen sponge, but slowly comes back. Is this just normal algae, diatoms, what?

Also, some of the areas look like the have little groups of...feathers stuck/growing on them. I tried to get a picture of it, but the picture didn't convey what I'm talking about, really.

normal algae. lower flow across the bottom of your tank is allowing it to build up. this is what mag scrappers are for :) I recommend the tunze so you don't scratch up your glass from rocks getting stuck in between the glass and mag scraper.

Looks like you got a "package" from TBS. all of those cool new things crawling around and you are asking about the algae on the glass...
I clean my glass every day, it probably needs it every three days. Mag float, tunze and "the flipper" are the most common magnetic glass cleaners I believe.

Well, I'm asking because it's blocking my view of all the cool things, and I want to make sure it's nothing that would hurt the cool things! :)

Awesome, thank you:)

I've been using mag floats for 11years. Just bought the flipper and must say I'll never buy another mag float. It's really nice!
