Hi....I just snapped a couple pics of this newish rock of zoas that I purchased from UpScales in Tualitan Oregon a few months ago. They are comming right along.

Second pic is kind of an overall shot. You can kind of see some of the baby blue center w/ orange dot zoas in the background.

The colony looks very healthy. Watch out and make sure that 1 strain doesn't start taking over, it would be a shame to lose all of that diversity!

Those are beautiful!! :)

I did not realize that one could take over the other. I'm beginning a 24 gallon zoas tank in the fall and wanted to mix the rocks. Should I keep them seperate in order to keep the diversity I want?

Sometimes it happens, other people have success with mixed colonies, but I have not. It's better to be safe than sorry.

it depends on how closely related the species are. i have some that i got on the same rock over two years ago and they haven't messed with each other. but i have had others that have taken over.

Thanks everyone!

I know what you mean about one species taking over. It is not usually the most beautiful one either. Here is another image with a little less diversity.

The lighting for the tank consists of 2, 250W DE, 14K Pheonix lamps in ROIII reflectors. They are drivin by a dual, 250W HQI, BlueWave VII ballast. I also use 4, 110W, URI, SuperActinicR lamps driven by an electronic, LampsNow ballast.

Thanks again!
