nice clean shots - depth of field is a bit limited.

They could do with compressing a bit too - took ages to load up here.

You might have to sacrifice a bit of quality but if compressed carefully you probably wont see a difference.

yeah, actually they loaded fast for me this time.

They are still big files though - not great if you are on a slow connection.

In photoshop, go to 'save for web' and adjust the slider. You should be able to reduce them to under 100kb without any obvious loss in quality.

How do i open up the depth of field?

I used a Nikon 60mm macro for the shots...dont remember what stop I was using. I used aperature priority with flash off, shot the pic a bit on the dark side and added exposure in the Raw utility so I didnt have blown highlights.

thanks for the feedback...

Usually you can widen the DOF by using a smaller aperture (high f-stop number).
That makes the background more in focus, and usually it makes for an overall sharper picture. However, most people don't use crops, so sharpness isn't an issue when resized for the web.

But you already shot the photos at f/20 and f/13, so that's pretty narrow.

You can up to the ISO (probably to 400 or 800) and still get decent shots. That way you can use a wider aperture (smaller f-stop) and faster shutter speeds. With practice, you can then eliminate the need for a tripod (although they are still very useful).

Also your lens.. the Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 is sharpest at f/5.6 and f/8. I would suggest trying some shots at a wider aperture like f/2.8 and f/4 and see if you like it. They make for a dreamier background too (as well as faster shutter speed like I mentioned).

I think for these kind of macro shots his DOF is absolutely fine, in fact it adds to the quality of the picture in my opinion.

I have to say though, that the first one is a little dark.

Other wise they are awesome pictures.
