is there an easy way to get rid of some troublesome crabs, just seen them last night eating the coralline off my rocks, i cant take the rocks out to many pieces of coral, so is there a special trap, tried to use some food but didnt work they darted into some holes

I tried to use the water bottle method with bait inside and the crabs would not go for it. I had to wait and monitor at night until they got on a rock that I could just snatch out and then remove the crab from that. Patience!

I wouldn't worry about it.You have such a large tank. The coraline will grow back. The crab won't eat all of it.Sea urchins do eat it up pretty fast.I have one to eat mine off the glass but the urcin easts where it wants to eat.I use him to mow down my calerpa then I place him in my tank.

Place Lancefish or another strong smelling food on a small rock and attach it with a rubber band. Place this a large tall glass and place in an almost upright position in the tank against a rock. It helps if it is placed near to where the crab inhabits.
The crabs crawl in for the food but because of the smooth sides they cant get out.
NEVER FAILED ME YET. 4 crabs now in sump. sorry i like them just not in my reef

that was mean

mean but funny

i jsut caught a monster crab in my tank last night that has been eating rics and zoanthids for the last 6 months. i took a flashlight and shot it through a red plastic cup (crabs dont see red light) and waited for him to come out. when he was out in the open i snatched him up with a net. hes kind of camoflouged in color with blacktipped claws...and HUGE. his body was like 2.5" wide.
