crab?

I just started a new tank, I purchased quite a bit of live rock and along with that came a hermit crab, but today I noticed when I just turned on the light right next to my hermit was some kind of white looking flat crab with pinchers and when I turned on the light he took off quickly, any ideas what kind of crab this may be?

Since there is no photo of it, it is impossible to hazard a guess other than it being a xanthid or possibly a mithrax crab species since those are the most commonly found types hitch hiking in on rocks, and probably most likely something you will want to remove from your tank and send it to Leslie Harris (see the "crabs wanted" thread")

I have a few examples of various crab species within my hitch hiker page that may help you ID it yourself. Hope it is of use.
