Hey nigel, I live in new ken, could I get a peice? I'd like to give it a look over. At least maybe get a closer look.

If I could give you a piece I would, But it is coraline algae of some sort and unless it spreads to another rock it would be difficult. I think that it has spread to another rock so if you want maybe,we can trade up in the future.

Hey there i have the same stuff spreading on my base rocks. So if i may i'll be sniffing around to see what is being posted hopefully the question gets answered.

Mine is neon yellow-ish,light green thing spreading all over my base rocks. It is the color of a tennis ball. It started growing after my snails cleaned up what was left over from a small diatom cycle.(they left the rocks bare)Shortly after i started to notice this color spreading..This is mostly where the light shines on the rocks. Im not sure what it is. Any opinions/help would be appreciated

Oh btw it's nothing like slime. It is solid like the red coralline algae, i cant even scrape it off. I also have alot of red dots forming on these bare base rocks.

Please some one tell me it is good. lol.

Yea, mine is really hard to, like a coral. It is starting to spread to other rocks to, But it is losing that awesome metallic green. Its almost like to colors swirled together, a dark pretty maroon and strong metallic green. almost like those paint swirls I did at carnivals when I was a kid. Or like the tie die t-shirt effect. It likes flow just like my sps coral's and moderate light unlike my sps corals.

Nothing to worry about.

Is the rock very new? If so, then there's a good chance it will die off and be replaced by coralline of a more 'normal' color.

Then again, it might not. :)

I have had some of it crop up on some of my fiji. Aside from looking a little odd, no otherwise bad side effects. Let me know if you hear anything more as far as an actual id.

Im just hoping some one tells me its official, good coralline. I mean its like i spray painted certain spots on the rocks. It actually does look nice since there just bare base rocks catching some color. Sorry for getting annoying, but any more suggestions?

I agree, it will most likely die off. I had some awesome pink "algae" ony some of my rock long ago and it eventually disappeared.

All man I hope it does not die off, I like it better than regular coroline thats for sure. I've had it for over 2 years so I think I'll keep it, but like anything else SW you never know for sur. Thanks everyone for your input.

Same here nigel, Imagine how excited i am when my base rocks went in all pale. All of a sudden they are a cool looking green, also my purple & red is starting to spread.EVery where even in the dark spots.Man i dont know what i did but i wish i knew so i cant do all over again.lol. To be honest it must be all the water changes. But now my anemone is starting to act weird. I leave that for another thread.
