We have a creature that is attached to the underside of a large rock, he seems to be shooting a web like a spider, will he harm corals? Do you know what it is.,

creature under rock

Help!
This creature has just appeared after we brought home many corals from the coral market in Montgomery, let me back up, he had to be in our tank already, as for he is in a large, what I call a cocoon, he started shooting his web like structure at an orange plate coral that we purchased at the market. Should I try to scrap him off, keep in mind he is under the point of a large 54 pound rock.

Especially if the 'cocoon' appears to be kind of spiral, then ends with a projection from which the 'web' is extending. Basically. it's made of mucous - they extend them, then pull them in and feed on whatever got caught on it. Like Tomoko said, it's not going to do anything to your orange plate other than irritate it.

You probably have a bunch more in your tank than you realize - most of the time when you move live rock around and get those little cuts on your fingers, vermetid snail tubes are the culprits as they are calcareous and pretty strong/sharp.

If you just can't stand it, you could probably break it off/kill it with some sturdy curved tweezers without having to take the rock out.
