Waterbox Keeper
This is a small part of one arm of a crinoid in Kevin Kohen's azoox aquarium at his F&S Diver's Den office. I share it so those interested can see the fine filaments, called podia, along the pinnules.
Laura Birenbaum looked up the anatomy and provided this description from a textbook:
"The arm is the central stalk, the branches from it are the pinnules, and the smallest "filaments" are the podia (tube feet.) The adhesive podia grab food and pass it to the cilia-lined food grooves that run down the pinnules. The food is pushed by the cilia in these grooves down the pinnules, to the arms, and to the mouth.
