I want to set-up a 29G around a Crocea Clam and this is the set-up I have in the works:

Equipment:
29G tank
250W, MH, 20k light
40# LR
1" LS
2 Powerheads ~150 GPH each
1 Aquaclear 500, no media
1 heater (of course!)
No Skimmer

Livestock:
Several turbos, astreas, trochus, and nassarius snails
Several hermits (~10)
Emerald Crab
2 Neon Gobies
2 Firefish Gobies
1 Yellow Watchman Goby (maybe)
1 Lawn Mower Blenny
1 Urchin (Longspine black)
1 Sand sifting star (another maybe)
1 Crocea Clam

I eventually will add lots of SPS, acros, monti's, etc.

Is this too much? I may drop the YWG, star, and urchin depending on what people think about the bio-load. Also, if anything starts to pick on the clam I do have antoher tank I can place them in.

The lighting will be good for a crocea, keep in mind that with a 29 gallon that heat could become an issue. IMO Too many fish and too many gobies. Gobies are bottom dwelling and can be territorial, in a 29 gallon they would probably fight all the time for territory. Not too mention that in a 29 gallon without a skimmer I would only keep 2-3 small fish max. Also a side note, be warned that gobies are jumpers when startled, I've already lost 2 to jumping out of the tank even with eggcrate on top..they are quick little buggers. HTH

Agreed...I'd also lose the urchin too...they are hell in small tanks!
You might want to research the blenny...bi-colors are notorious clam killers, and call me crazy, I swear once of twice that I've read on here about Lawnmowers being nippers too.

i disagree with lawn mowers being nippers. imo i have had one for over two years and all it ever did was hang out on the side of the shell. i would think it is case sensitive not species related.

but i agree on there would be way to many gobies. also use a skimmer. i started with a 29 gallon and wished i had used a skimmer. it saves you alot of headaches.

It's funny how as I kept looking at my list there were all gobies. I think it is just becuase they tend to stay rather small and for a 29G that is good.

I need to rethink my whole fish scheme. I want something reasonbly striking and stays small, that's why I went towads the firefish. The YWG was basically placed to keep the sand bed clean,a dn the LMB becuase he is outgrowing his current tank.

I have to at least try to place the LMB in there. if he is a problem I can always remove him. After that maybe I will just get a couple of firefish or maybe 2 tomato clowns instead?

Thanks everyone for there input.

I have a 250w DE MH 10" from the surface on my 29g. House temps 75-77f and with lights on the tank is at a stable 81f so no heat problems here. I am in the southwest by the way no where near Alaska. One day someone left the AC off when I was gone and temps went to 83-84f with no ill effects. SPS will color up better with 250-400w MH then on 175s.

I think adding all the SPS will take away from the clam being the center of attention in the tank. You might want to go light on the Acro's and such and just add a few and let them grow out. Less to draw your eye away from the clam. Same with the fish which has already been discussed.

I disagree about the temp issue above as well. Heck, I have 2 175s plus a 55w actinic over my 29. No fan, no chiller, and temp stays at 81.
