Crown of Thorns in the Philippines

The local dive shops around Puerto Galera have an on going campaign of trying to control the crown of thorns population. Currently they most common method is to shoot the crown three times with a needle of poison. Another method is to pull them out of the water and burry them in the sand on shore.

What is the best way to control their population?

I've actually been to Puerto Galera!! Ensinada beach resort during the day and Sabang at night. Heaven on Earth (for me anyways!!)

I watched a show where they were killing these on the GBR. They have to inject each leg/arm of the star to kill it. I think that injecting them will be the fastest way to get rid of them.
