crowned floor.

So i got the stand and hood for my 135 down to s fla and yesterday i finally had the time to take a look at how it is sitting. (moving is such a pain) it looks like the floor is crowned 1/4 to 3/8" in the middle of the stand. I can't change the tank location, so i'm open to suggestions by the group. I know it can't stay that way, because the glass will snap.

the one idea i have had so far is to build a sub stand beneath the stand and have it level at the top and have the bottom of the stand convex enough so it will be supported. but this WILL be a pain so it would be great if anyone has any better suggestions.

What you need is a massive shim job, then a trim piece to hide the gaps at the floor.

The floor under my tank is also about 3/8" higher at one end than the other. I cut pieces of 1/8" thick hardboard, and used these as giant shims to provide bulk to fill the gap, using 2 and 3 layers where the gap was larger. Then I went around with typical wedge shims to make sure everything was tight and evenly supported all the way around. A slightly tapered kick plate covers the shim and hardboard, from the floor to the bottom of the doors.

same here I have almost 15 shims on my stand. put the shims in then use a 1/4" round to cover them up

well then since i now know it works i'll have to give it a try! I got to tell you i was scared about shimming it with as much weight as we are talking about.

Don't worry, it should work just fine.

BTW, these old pictures from my gallery show my tank leveling.

The level is sitting on a stack of hardboard pieces that I used for space filler. I used most of a 4'x8' piece, cut into 12"x30" pieces. Notice that the edge away from the wall is raised off the ground slightly
