crushed coral in sump?

I'm replacing my sump and the old one had crushed coral about 2" deep. Should I continue to use the crushed coral or go bb? I really like the pod, mysis, and stomata population I was getting out of the old fuge.

I'm using a little liverock rubble in the bottom of my fuge with a ball of Chaeto and the fuge is teaming with life.

I have plenty of rock rubble I could do that with. Is that method better on nitrates than the crush coral bottom? Also, I hope to have some mangroves in there. They have already started to root. It was suggested to float them so I can trim the roots. The new sump is too deep for them anyway. Any more suggestions?

I would expect rock rubble to produce better results then crushed corals as far as nitrates are concerned.
