Cupramine and ich

Hey guys Got a question for you. I purchased a carribian blue tang from Live Aquaria when i got him i put him in quarantine as i do with all my fish. I noticed 3rd day he had ich. Started treating him with cupramine as i allways do for 3 weeks. after 6 weeks he never had no problems and looked great so i put him in main tank. The next day i saw one white dot on his tail resembling ich, funny thing is i saw it one day it was on him all day then was gone the next.
My 125 is only 4 months old and only had 2 clowns that i properly quarantined so this really upsets me I was trying to keep the tank ich free.:headwally:

Ich may be what makes me walk away from the hobby all together. I'm giving it one more shot. My most recent tank I only put one fish in, a dog face puffer3-4 inches. I Qt' d the fish for 6 wks, no signs of anything, ate fine and was active and alert. Not a spot on him. Put him into display that never had ich before (even if a piece of rock carried it from the store) it was fallow for 12 wks. 2 months in and boom ich!
This time in Qt I'm using cupramine prophylactically. If this doesnt work, Im getting a pet rock!

actually the more I read the more Im thinking of trying the tank transfer method first, before copper.

Are you sure this wasn't just a sand grain or similar whatever? If you followed procedures for eradicating ich to the letter and were sure there was no cross contamination; you might not have seen ich. Its against my nature to say this; but I would wait until you see more spots, this could have been something else.
I think TT is a great; but you have to treat all of your fish and leave the DT fallow for another 10+ weeks.

Yea I think thats what im going to do, I have a fine sand bottom and when i put him in the tank he went in a crevice and hid under the rocks, I think he might have picked up a grain of sand. I have never seen ich stay on the fish for only one day in the visable form ay least 7 days or longer. thanks

NO I didnt do tank transfer on that fish, it was a passive QT which most advocate for! For new fish going forward Im going the TT route, whether they have signs of ich or not. Ive lost all faith in passive QT

TT cannot be regarded as passive wait and see old tale.

It does allow ich to have one last shot at the fish, but I have to say the chance is not high.

I don't like TT for the work involved, stress on me and the fish.

I like preparing well in advance and having to do little and just wait it out.

WC is a PITA, so is transfering livestock.

Im including TT as active QT along with Cupramine dosing. Im done with having a QT where you just observe the fish for "X" amount of weeks. Ive seen fish in someones tank for 2 years suddenly get ich, beacuse it was carrying it subclinically for some time, yet we're supposed to believe that a 4-6 week QT period of watch and observe proves anything.
