Cupramine treatment regimen

What is the expected time for using Seachem Cupramine in efforts to rid all fish from the ich parasite? I have heard four weeks, but is longer necessary?

Bottle says 2 weeks, but I do 3 weeks at .3-.5ppm. I've been told Seachem's tech support will suggest 3 weeks also.

I prefer at least 4 weeks of Cupramine. Not all ich cysts release their free-swimmers on time and copper only kills ich in the free-swimming stage. Like geaux xman said; a lower dose (.35) is very effective. be sure to keep in QT for at least 4 weeks after you see the last white spot.

Does the Cupramine stay in solution/concentration or does it dissipate quickly and need to be continually monitored with the Seachem copper test kit?

Are there some fish that cannot take the higher dosages, it seems like I read this somewhere?

What is the specific level not to exceed where it becomes toxic?

Somewhere between .3-.5 is acceptable from what I see? Thanks again!

Cupramine stays at a steady level for long periods. It takes about a day to get a true reading. The only things that take this out are water changes and carbon. Most fish can take cupramine at a level .25-.50 the more delicate fish like it lower..angels ect

Try to keep it .50 or lower

Some people, myself included, dose Cupramine over 4 days rather than 3. The bottle says to put 1/2 in on day 1 and 1/2 in on day 3. I put 1/3 in on days 1, 3 and 4. It gives the fish more time to acclimate.

I use a lower dose like .3 to .35 when the fish show no signs of parasites for 3 - 4 weeks. I would use the higher dose if I saw parasites on fish.

Although Cupramine is very stable in solution, you should still test. I have the Seachem test, and it is somewhat hard to read. I would try the Salifert test kit.

Flame angels are very sensitive to copper and you may not want to dose them above ,15 or so.

Watch your fish carefully. If they appear lethargic and stop eating while undergoing treatment, reduce the dose concentration or better yet remove them from the copper solution (i have a second qt for this).
