Do you use these terms interchangably? Or is there a difference that I am unaware of?

Cooking is usually a curing process that takes place in the dark for longer periods of time. (6wks to 3 months) It also includes doing 50-75% water changes weekly when you take the rocks out and swish them around in the water that is being taken out to remove any detritus that accumulates in the holes and pores of the rock. The "cooking" process is said to eliminate or greatly reduce algae blooms and phosphates in the tank they are added to

I have cooked rock to kill algae before. Similar in process as above, but i did not do the waterchanges. I put a heater and a PH in the rubbermaid tub, put the lid on it and let it go. I changed the water 4 times over six months. Rock was clean, algae free, and ready to go.
