curing live rock

I am on day 2 of curing my kaelini rock that I got from reefermaddness and was wondering if there are any good threads or other information that I can go to about cycling a new tank? Jim

While cycling a new tank, never forget the most important ingredient (patience). Assuming your tank is empty, you have little to worry about aside from water test's/water change's etc. until your #'s read PERFECT.:D Keeping your tank @ desired water parameter's (temp/calcium/ph/etc.) will accelerate process. Also the addition of other "prime" L.R. from multiple sources help's to add biodiversity!:strooper:

actually raising the temp to approximately 90 degrees f will speed up the cycle signifigantly (that's what we do at the store)... just a thought!

Patience is the key word. The rule of thumb is even after your water parameters are acceptable wait another week or two. 30 days is not un common for curing live rock. It is my understanding that the most common mistake aquarist's make is getting in a hurry to stock the tank.
Read all you can of reef tanks. Some great authors are Charles Delbeek, Ronald Shimek, Julian Sprung. These guys have been around a long time, they recomend keeping your lights off during the curing process also. Good circulation and lots of patience. You will hopefully be rewarded with a beautiful tank.

Thanks for the info. I am on day 3 now and my nitrites and nitrates are 0 but the ammonia is at I think 1.0 I did a 25% water change yesterday. I have been looking to see if I have any life on the rock but see nothing only dead plants and such. Is it normal for curing rock to get ammonia of 1.0? Jim
