Curing Rock

I'm about ready to order sand and dry rock from Marco's rock. I read the sticky on curing rock but do have some questions. The tank is brand new and I am okay with letting it cure for 2 months if needed. Can I do this in the tank instead of in a tub (is there an advantage of one compared to the other - I am assuming so since most people use tubs)? More importantly, do I need to drain all the water in the tank after curing and refill and then do a cycle? Or is curing the LR and a tank cycle one in the same?

I don't know why you would need to do anything but get it all in the tank and start the cycle process.. You will want to ghost feed or whatever to get it started..

If I where to do over, I'd go in tank. I have the 75 pound of rock in a tub that is fully cured and cycled, and now I need to do the aqua scape. It means any time I thought I saved curing the rock in a tub while I build the tank is probably going to need to be repeated because I'm going to have to take all that rock out of the water while I build the aquascape. I haven't done it yet but I'm sure it would be easier to chisel, drill, glue all in the dry rock as apposed to the wet mess I'll be working with.

Thats exactly the experinced reply i needed. I guess im confused why anyone does it in a tub for exact reasons you stated.

I still don't understand the advantage of curing rock in the tank? Once it's cured it's cured right? If you move it from a tub, aquascape and put it into the tank, does the time it's out of water cause the bacteria to die off?
