Just curious as to why the tankmates list seems to be very inaccurate to me. I have my horses with some lps and sps corals. On the list it states hammer, frogspawn and bubble corals as defcon 4 and duncans as only 2 I believe. I was thinking about that and before my horses came I was going to get rid of those corals. I then started to really think about why. These corals are listed as aggressive but that is only to other corals not fish or inverts. Then I was thinking of the duncans, well, they are a lot like an anemone and very sticky. They are much more dangerous than lps corals. My horses actually like to hitch onto the stalks of the hammer and frogspawn. Now I'm not sure what these corals would do to very small babies or dwarves but they seem to be very safe with my horses.

You cannot keep sps with seahorses due to the amount of flow. You are stressing them out and they must be hitching constantly. I have always followed the rules beacuse I don't want to wake up to a SH that has been stung to death or half eaten by a LPS with speepers.

I have a monti cap in the tank. The flow is fairly low. The monti is looking really good but if it starts to decline I have somewhere else to put it. The horses are able to swim easily around the tank without being blown around.

The hammers, frogspawn, bubble corals are listed as not safe due to their sweeper tentacles and sting potential. I'm glad you've been lucky so far. However, it's not a matter of "if" your horses will get stung ....it's a matter of "when".

The tankmates guide was not created on theory. It was created based on first-hand experiences of many experienced seahorses hobbyists/breeders.

Best of luck!

That's a fair statement I suppose but there is always exceptions to the rule. I haven't seen a sweeper tentacle from any of my lps corals since I got them. Generally the sweeper tentacles are to defend or attack another coral. I have plenty of space between all my corals so I guess they don't feel the need for the warfare I guess. I was probably more concerned with where the duncans fell on the list as I watched mine grab a seahorse and proceed to try and pull it in. I got that coral out of the tank immediately. Duncans are definately much more dangerous than any other coral in the tank. I'm not trying to rewrite any books or anything I just thought it was interesting.

I don't know if I have the crazy duncans or something but yeah. The tentacles on this thing are like 2 inches long and very sticky. The horse was a good 2.5 inch at least.

I do see the potential of these corals to be dangerous but to state without a doubt that theses corals are the highest threat level I think is a little much. That being said the guidlines set forth in the tankmates thread are probably a good idea to follow. I just think every system is diffferent and for my system it seems to be working for me. I have a little bigger tank for the horses andI don't have the corals packed together so they feel threatened by each other. All I'm saying is that in my system without the presence of sweeper tentacles my corals seem safe to me.
