Cutting a huge mushroom

I have a rather large mushroom in my 30g tank. I like him, since he hitched to me on a dry piece of live rock two years ago and now he's all grown up!

While I have watched some videos on YouTube, I've never actually cut/fragged any coral before, so just want to make sure from you guys.

1. Do I need to cut it through the centre, or can I just cut pieces off and tie it to rock?

2. After its been cut, will it grow back into a disc shape like before?

3. How long does it take to heal?

Cut small pieces. Best to have a basked with some gravel from tank in the basket and low flow in the tank as not to blow the soft coral around. After a few days the leather will start attaching to rock. After a couple weeks the leathers should be pretty secure and have some gravel pieces attached to it. You can then use GEL GLUE dollar store super glue and glue it to frag plugs small pieces of rocks etc. etc. etc. It will eventually grow to that mushroom shape.

You can cut it directly in half, or cut off a pizza slice. I would rubber band it to a piece of rubble rock. Yes, it will grow circular again.

You can cut off a piece as big as you like. Make sure to use a sharp blade so the cut is clean. My preferred method of attaching leather coral frags to plugs or rubble is dental floss. Tie it just tight enough to hold it in place. After a few weeks you can cut it and pull it off, even if the coral grew around it. Rubber bands work, but sometimes it is difficult to get the right strength and it will either not hold or cut through.

I agree. That looks more like a leather. You can cut small pieces and glue it to pedestals, and they should grow. Sometimes leathers pop off, though.

leather or mushroom (but yes, that is a leather and not a mushroom), just slice and dice it any way you want it.

with the clowns hosting on it, they will defend it if you try to do anything with the leather.
