Cutting Acrylic?

Anyone know the painless way to cut acrylic? I need to cut about a one inch trough out of a divider in my tank. It is at the top of the tank at water level. Would like to cut it without draining my tank. I would have to drain off almost half of the tank to make the water level drop at this spot. Any advice??

Please help
Thanks

router with aq flush trim bit would be the best option if possible otherwise it'll be a hack job. probably better off draining the tank.

I have seen 2-3 foot drill bits (telephone companies use them to drill lines from 2nd floor to first floor to run lines). Perhaps you could attach a circular bit to the end of one of those?

You have sparked an idea. What about a hole saw? If I can get the drill bit started directly in the divider it should plow right through and make a nice trough? Would you gents agree?
