Cutting Acrylic

Hi,
What is the best way to increase the size of the openings on the top of my tank? I have a 240gal acrylic tank that has no overflows. On the top, in the back are two small openings for hang on equipment. I would like to increase the size of these openings to fit a CPR overflow box. The acrylic is 5/8" thick.

Can a jig saw with fine tooth metal cutting blades be used? If so, what would be the best method? Any precautions that need to be taken? I plan on draining the tank as much as possible and using wood clamps from front to back in case in cracks on top, but what about the area I am going to cut?

Any help would be great.

Jim
