o.k 2 questions

1. I have a fowlr with PC's on it for what reason i dont know. im positive that these lights led to my cyano problem since they are very olf and havent been replaced. MY questions is if i just put the daylight/actinic flourescent bulbs in a hood and put them on my FOWLR will i ever have to worry about that light turning into "bad light" that algae loves?

2.if i take the rocks with cyano out of my tank and scrub them clean in saltwater from my tank then turn them upside down in my tank should that clear the problem up?

any suggestions would be great!

I had a problem with cyano and all I did was hook my skimmer back up and a couple of frequent water changes and it cleared up.

You will find that cyano hates waterflow as well, so maybe redirect your flow towards the affected places after you clean, and that should help.

Re: Cyano/Lighting Question

any bulb setup will change kalvin over time. I know with VHO its about 8 months. I think NO bulbs are longer. but all will degraded over time. if you want to get rid of CYANO and you want to go the chemical route then I recommend chem-clean. works wonders. in a few days it will be dead and after a week or two there will be no sign of it. its reef safe.

thanks alot.. im going to

1. change my lighting
2. take the rock and scrub it clean in saltwater
3. use chemi-clean

Most people say you should try and find the cause etc etc and you should because it could come back again someday, but I tried all kind of stuff and my tank looked like mars while I tried to figure it all out, so I used the chemi-clean and that was that, and move on to the next thing. If your going to use the chemi-clean you won't have to scrub your rock. unless there is something on it other then cyano.

Cyano indicates either a new tank, or bad water quality. Test for nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and see what you find.
