cyano with low nitrates.

I have a 65g and am starting to see cyano on the sandbed. I know flow helps discourage it, but if I point a power head at the cyano my sand goes everywhere. Any other suggestions for getting rid of it?

Parameters: (all tests except nitrate on API test kits)
Phosphate undetectable on API test kit.
Nitrate between 5 and 10 on salifert.
PH 7.4
KH 7-7.5
Calcium 500 (working on dialing in DIY automated kaulk doser, hence the high calcium, set it up yesterday)

I'm in the second week of cycling a DIY sulfur denitrater (tank was 50ppm nitrate prior to this) and I set up a RDSB this week to keep the NO3 down when the sulfur reactor is done doing its job.

No fish in the display, there is one damsel in the sump.

I have about 20x turn over in the display, and the tank is skimmed with a Euro Reef RS-80

Thanks for the help

Your PH and KH is quite low.
I'm thinking you need to correct that with some buffer and more airation.C02 build up,feeding practices can fuel cyano.

I was hoping the kaulk would help the PH and KH, so I was going to wait a few days before I tried a buffer. I feed very little (only one small fish) but the previous owners of the tank overfed. I traded in the other fish (hippo tank, ****** trigger, snowflake eel).

pete turn of lights for 3 days, no sunlight, nothing, on 4th day only actinics and on 5th day regular schedule, btw how old are your bulbs, good luck

one other thing to do.
Don't poit the PH directly o your sand after our syponh out the cyano that you can lower the PH closer to the sand bed trying to get a direct flow above the sand bed.
I,m sure you are using RO water.
Tracy.
PS what type PH is it?

The cyano is forming on the middle front of the sand bed (no dead spot). I have a korala 2 and a Tunze nano stream 6025 on the tank, so I'll try lowering the Koralia closer to the sand. I have a phos reactor, but I still need to get a phos remover for it.

Its spelled "Niger" trigger.

Thanks for the correction.

My PH and KH are both up to 8 now, and I moved my power heads down so they are both blowing across the sand. I plan to add another koralia 2 or 3 to the tank to bump it up to 30x turn over, or two maxi jet 1200's on a wave maker.

Thanks for all the advice.
