Cycled tank and Cured LR ....?

I got a load of LR for someone here on RC. About 50lbs. 5 lbs or so was out of the water for 2 weeks. The rest as far as I know came out when I picked it up. My tank has been running for almost 2 months with nothing in it. I added some shrimp to it to start the cycle. Then I did nothing until the new LR. After 4 days I had my Ammonia went up to .5 and now its gone. I'm not looking to add anything to the tank yet but, I'm wondering - with the LR being cured and the tank cycled is that all I could expect for a cycle?

yeah pretty much. You're cycling the rock and not the tank after all. The rock is what has the bacteria, and since its allready cured (cured=cycled) theres not much to do. I'm guessing that the amonia came from the rock that was out of water for 2 weeks if you didnt clean it of very good cuz it prolly had some dead..something on it.

But I've added rock to already-cycled tanks 3 times now...never had any spikes cuz it was always cured rock from established tanks. I did add live sand that i got for free once..it was from a tank that had been running for a couple years, so it was all "cured"....but whenever you move live sand you will normally cause a small spike in amonia due to the stuff in it...thats what happend to me...small spike for 2 days is all and nothin since ;)
