Cycling my system.

My system is the following.
120 display, 55g sump
150 gallon fuge

I'm thinking of cycling just the fuge and put all of the live rock into it.

Leave the system off and when the fuge is cycled, put live rock into the display, partial water change and let the system run.

I will add dry sand to the display, since it's dry, doesn't need to be cycled.
Any problems with doing it this way?

A lot depends on the dry rock, some has enough dried on organics to start another cycle, others are high in leached phosphates and nitrates. I would recommend you cycle it all at once, it will give you time to correct any issues that the dry rock may have.

Nothing wrong with it. It would be just like cycling the rock in a separate container then adding to the display. You will want to keep it in the dark and test for phosphate. You may have to dose some lanthanum chloride to rid the rock of phosphate.

Get some Instant Ocean Biospira...

I mean it'll cycle your tank in pretty much no time. I do that with all new tanks and QT tanks as well.

Few days after you add it, it seems like the tanks are good to go.

Don't take my word as gospel, just my personal experience.

Is the point to cook out some phosphate, or save electricity, or clear dead stuff, or you just don't want to look at an empty tank?

I cycled my tank all aquascaped but bb and added sand later. Worked out nicely for me cause I could clean up all the crud that came out of my dry rock and had the option to easily dose lc if necessary. It's a lot easier to scape dry if you want to drill it or even if you don't cause the rocks not all slippery and you don't have to worry about having it out of the water etc.
