Cycling time?

Hi,
We are about to go from a 130 gal to a 180 gal. The 130 has been up and running for over 8 years so it is well established. My concern is when I move everything into the 180. I will be adding more live sand and rock. Does anyone know if it will go thru much of a cycle after the move? I am concerned about the corals. What is the best way to do this?
Thanks,
Renee

Thanks for the info. I plan on moving everything into the larger tank.

how deep is the sandbed? i would be worried about releasing toxins into the water when disturbing the old sand. and adding the new LR depending on if it is cured or not could make a big diff. depending on how much more your adding. otherwise just cure it in a seperate container before adding to the main tank.

Hi,
The sand bed is about 1.5" deep. I have slowly been vacuuming deep into the sand bed. I will do one area at a time and then wait about a week or two before I do another area. I am hoping that this cuts down on some of the bad stuff that is in there when it is transferred.

Hi again,
The live rock will be the cured rock from the old tank. I also want to make some rock with interesting shapes to add.

I would only take the TOP layer of sand as the under side of the sand could be deadly. Also make sure that the NEW live rock is cured as if it is not, then it will spike the ammonia!

Hi,
What if I do deep bed cleanings before moving all the sand into the new tank? I have already started doing this one section at a time.
