cyphastrea vs. prostrata

I have an impending battle probably a month or two out. Both are on the same rock and very encrusted, pretty soon the base of the prostrata and the cyph are going to meet up. I've got a feeling that the cyph is going to wipe out the prostrata from the bottom up. Any one wanna place a bet on the outcome? It's going to be really tough to frag either of them back, not sure what I'm going to do.

never really saw a battle between a cyph and anything else. Which type of cyph is it ? decadia (sp?) or one of the other types ? (I thought I recalled 3 or so.. we only have the dec. ourselves)

mille's and prostrata's seem to kill most anything else they run into, so id put my money on the acro.

I concur, the acro will most likely win. The filaments it can send out will toast the Cyphastrea in no time.

Hmm, thanks guys. I have another cyph next to a galaxia and it's holding it's own for about a year I figured they were pretty tough. Well, time will tell I think maybe a month or two at most.

Spark - it's C. japonica (similar to ocellina). Besides the decadia I haven't seen any others in the trade. IMO japonica is the fastest grower, then ocellina, then decadia... which is kinda painfully slow

Jake,

Just continually glue or epoxy rocks inbetween them. When they encrust the rock, break it off, dremel, and you have two frags you can sell or trade.

Jacob, c. decadia is a wimp. I have to protect mine against any acro contact. I'd bet montis will damage it.

Karl - Thanks for the idea, but it's a pretty tough spot to reach into and the rock is flat, so not the best surface for epoxy/glue. I'll give it a try though!

Hector - Thanks for the heads up but I'm not keeping any decadia any more... gosh! freakin idiot! How's is yours doing? Much growth?
