D3100 lenses and advice

Ok so I am getting into the photography aspect of the hobby now, and have realized that a macro/closeup lens is how everyone gets these amazing pictures. I was wondering what lenses I can use. I have a D3100. I am learning and dont want to buy something that I am going to want to change in a month or so, nor get something that doesnt work well with my camara. I currently have a 55-200 telephoto, and have elements for processing.

thanks

Your best bet is probably going to be the Canon 100mm macro. There's a regular version and an image stabilized (IS) version. Personally, I'd probably save myself some money and get the non image stabilized. I think the quality of the lenses themselves is pretty similar. Sigma also makes a pretty good macro lens for Canon cameras. Just don't get frustrated once you get the lens if you can't immediately take pictures as good as some of the people on the forum. Quality equipment is only the first part of the equation, and compared to technique and proper conditions, although it is important, it ranks third.

Just go buy this.

thanks for the advice I will be doing a bit more research tomorrow on my day off plan on getting a lens tomorrow

This is from the macro sticky.

If I may add, I've made a list of the most commonly-used macro lenses for the Nikon mount:

These are the lenses that are true macros that will fit the D3100. Some may not auto focus, but you want to focus in manual most of the time anyway.

I was reading through that on the posted thread... question would be which one auto has an aouto focus with the 3100? I am looking at the Sigma 105, nikon 105s or Tameron 90.

I believe the 3100 needs a motor in the lens. The ones that say screw for af will not af on it.
