damn this caulerpa....

waverz

Slave to the reef!
I battled with caulerpa in my moms tank, my 24 gallon, and now in my 75 gallon. I hate this stuff!!! I knew when i bought the live rock it was gonna be a problem adn now im tired of looking at it. Im gonna try another tang and see if that will work. Im gonna be adding a CA reactor to the tank as well so maybe the higher ph and alk levels will take care of it.....

keeping my fingers crossed..........

Are you running a refugium?? It can really help to get it growing somewhere else, then get a tang etc to help keep it out of the main tank.

I ran a refugium on my small tank and it worked great. I wish i had room to run one remotely but i dont. Maybe, ill have to build one somehow.

Thanks for advice.

BTW:my pm box is now empty

Here's a pic of my old 75. I had grape calurpa bad. I got a PBT and a Foxface and thought I was rid of it for about a year, but the Foxface and PBT were also nipping at my corals and also thought I was really bad at keeping corals. I tried two other foxfaces and different tangs after that. It's hard to find one that will wipe out the problem and not eat your favorite corals.

My best advice would be to put all your current rock in a sump and buy some rock off one of the locals that are trying to sell it. Trust me, $100 - $200 is cheep to be rid of the problem. You'll never look back.

Did you know that Marcus used vodka to remove the calurpa from his tank.

I bet you didn't know that when fish are drunk, they eat more.

Is it cocaine that gives you the munchies? Maybe you could try that. :D

I was trying to nutrient starve the calurpa. The growth slowed down, but it is tough to get rid of. Why do you think it was called the killer kelp?

I was considering one of the bateria products to try to starve my feather caulerpa out. My Yellow tang only has shown a passing interest in it and I have the worst luck at buying new tangs.

You see a little caulerpa that wondered up out of you sump and you think that not that bad.

3 months later. BAM, you can get rid of it to save you life.

I've been worried about the occasional grape wondering to the main tank, but I have several yellow tangs that eat anything that wonders into the main tank. I may put a filter on the return pump just to be sure.

Feather may not be as bad as grape. You could always try a foxface or an other tang. Kind of hit or miss though.

Feather ran my grape out of business a year ago!

If you are thinking of using a low nutrient system try the Prodibio Digest and BioPTIM. It works great...I have been using it for about 7 months now.
