damsel community

havent seen one specifically damsels but seems like aggression would occur depending on species and growth rate. I have several blue chromis and a domino damsel- seperate tanks and they both seem to be semi aggressive. May look good but damsels are somewhat limited in color for an entire tank IMO but then again may look really good but need pics of one to confirm

I had one for a long time as one of my first tanks. But the damsels fight alot. I thought it was a cool tank and have been thinking of doing another one. Be prepared for much rearranging of the tank to add new fish.

I've seen a couple smaller tanks set up that way. It was interesting. The problem is once they get older they like to hide in caves, and wash out really bad.

I had a damsel tank for awhile. The biggest problem was that the fish would target one fish until they harassed it to death, then they would gang up on another. The worst offenders were of course any damsels that had paired up as they did the whole tag team effect.

So in the end I had to seperate them to different tanks or sell them.

Didn't have a problem with any of them washing out though....???? I've got a mated pair of three stripes right now that I've had for 3 or 4 years and their colors are as bright as the day I got them.

my blue damsel still looks bright, hes about 4 years old now...

unfortunately he has HLLE, it appears to have stopped spreading/looks a bit better since the picture was taken....

Also never had troubles with colors fading escept for a sellect few that are known for that. Such as Paraglyphidodon melas.

my velvet damsel is almost all washed out hand he is almost 3 inches long now, by my yellow tale is still under an inch and he pretty much the same color. His face isn't as blue as the rest of him is.

if you stay away from the peaceful ones than there are lots you can mix together. I like the Dascyllus damsels a lot myself.

If I was doing this over again, I think I'd go with a school of yellow tailed blue damsels. They get along pretty good with each other and in a tank that sized they should do just fine. Maybe 8 - 10 of them. If you wanted to add just one of the other more aggressive damsels it would probably work out fine as long as it was only one and you added it last! Something like a domino or three stripe would contrast nicely with the colony of YT blue damsels and it wouldn't be able to pick on just one of them either!

A school of green chromis tends to work ok, I think. IME they get along pretty well, and change colors from green and blue depending on lighting--so they look great. Problem is they are very stingy eaters..
