The redness on the yellow tang looks like ammonia poisoning to me. I've seen the exact same markings on a yellow tang that I lost when setting up a temporary quarantine. The ammonia level spiked unexpectedly and by the time I realized it the poor guy was on his way out and had red, bloody looking discoloration on his body. Definitely get a stable quarantine going for next time.

For what it's worth, Seachem has stated a couple of times that Cupramine does not affect the beneficial bacteria in our tanks. I have a cycled quarantine running right now with full strength Cupramine. It has been running that way for over three weeks with a perfectly stable cycle; no die off of bacteria or ammonia issues.

Not that I've ever heard or experienced. You should be able to set up a cycled quarantine and use both medications without issue... I've been doing it for a long time. Some people just do large water changes instead of having an established quarantine, but since I don't have time to do that constantly, prefer not to worry about ammonia levels, and don't like having to redose medication all of the time I opt to use a sponge in a HOB filter.

how do i get this sponge to have beneficial bacteria? I just put it in my DT sump for 24 hours and let the water soak into the sponge?

so i can put a sponge in my hob and take the carbon out and have it run during the QT process?

Yep, definitely. I use the AquaClear brand sponges. They come in 3 packs at Petsmart, are cheap, and I can just chuck it and use a new one for the next batch of fish.

You can leave it in your sump for a few days to seed it or just put it directly in the quarantine filter and either ghost feed the tank a little or add fish and do water changes until it gets established. I've used all of those methods with good success. Seeding is definitely the easiest.

Please, read the stickies on this board about creating a QT. A bucket and 2g of water is just a death sentence. If your are still running the 20g, you absolutely do not have any business putting a tang of any kind in it, or a flame angel. How many flame angels have you lost now, 2 or 3? Please do better research, an afternoon of research will save you a ton of $.

Your telling me to do better research yet you are creating your own story here?

Who said I have a 20 gal tank?
Who said I QT in a bucket?
Who said 2-3 flames died?

What on earth did you just make up? Lol

Here's the thing -

From your pics, it looks like you had at least 3 fish to treat: Flame, YT and an Anthias.

From your description of the symptoms, your tank was likely infected with either Ich or Velvet.

So, you either choose to ride it out and try to "manage" the problem with all the various Ich management tools OR you make preparations for a sustained treatment. Setting up, say, a 20 gal QT with heater/small powerhead would be one treatment option for using Cupramine.

Treating in a bucket should have never even been an option. I would even attempt TT with 3 fish in just a bucket.

My "story" was created from your posts. I read your old posts and that is what I saw.

You first listed your tank as a 20g, then I see on 11/10/12 you say "I have a 40B" Far too small for a Flame and Tang.

Just skimming you past posts I see, 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Yellow Goby, Yellow Tang, Flame angel, damsel, "bro all 3 died except for my very first fish, the clown.", "clown and clarkii".....

So that is AT LEAST 11 fish dead in a little over a year. Yes sir, I suggest you do more research. You obviously didn't because you put the tang and flame angel in a 40g tank. I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm trying to save you $ and the lives of your fish.
