Are you saying that you had the hippo in a qt for a long time and put it back into the dt and it showed back up with ich? If so, you need to get all of the fish out of the dt and let it set without fish for at least 10 weeks. In addition, all of your fish should be treated for an extended period (Cupramine, hypo or tank transfer, your choice).

It is hard to tell from the picture, but perhaps the hippo is coming down with popeye/ a bacterial infection in its eye.

Make sure to feed the hippo plenty of meaty foods. You can soak its food in Selcon and VitaChem.

that looks like popeye. Since it only exists on one of the eyes, it's likely he injured himself. I would add epsom salt to the QT to reduce the swelling.

What makes you think this fish has ich/ i'm not great with pics, but I don't see any sign of it but that may just be me. Ich is a specific parasite, not just a term for a sick fish. I believe the fish also has a bad case of HLLE.

sorry, the pics are not too great. His body has a bunch of white dots on it. I had a couple of other posts regarding my ich outbreak back in November 2011. I QT this and others in copper for almost 6 weeks. The others didn't make it, due to various power outages and broken heaters, and he was the sole survivor. He looked fine, so I replenished the stock in my dt, and I noticed white spots a couple of days prior to the eye infection. I think he might've injured his eye scratching himself.

I just gave my hippo tang away..he got ich even after QT as well. I hope giving him to someone with a bigger tank and more experience will give him a better and longer life. Maybe you should consider the size of your tank? Not that it will cure the Ich but to reduce stress....Idk what the size of your tank is... just a thought!

I've had him for over 2years now. Although I only have a 60 gallon, he's the biggest dude in there. I've had nothing but bad luck since the windstorms knocked out power for 3 days. I would give him up right now, but I just don't want to harm anyone else's tank.

Sad to say, all fish have died. I don't think it's ick now, maybe some other disease that killed them. Velvet maybe, just don't know. I guess the tank will be fallow now, until I decide if I wanna continue this hobby.

It could be ick, you should get a UV sterilizer and run it in your tank. I recently had a ick outbreak and it killed most of my fish. Only a few fish was able to survive; Yellow Tang and Flame Hawk. I added a Alantic Tang and he caught ick the next day, I added the UV sterilizer and fed them brine shrimp soaked in garlic with seaweed strips (soaked in garlic). They pretty much healed and there was no sign of ick after 1-2 weeks.

Sorry, if it was ich, you still have it. UV sterilizer usage reduces tomites that pass through it but since not all water passes through it will not eliminate ich. If you lost fish that quickly it is more likely oodinium as opposed to ich.

I'm guessing more velvet than ich. It spread like wildfire to the others, then all died within 2 days. i tried to qt them with copper, but it was too late. The question is, do i need to break down everything? When will it be safe to put fish in again?

I now have a 20 gallon qt tank for new fish to be qt. So after I buy the darn things, how long do I leave the new fish in the qt for?
