It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Never seen this before. Dark maroon splotch in the maroon on the fish.

Actinic lighting because halides off.

Any ideas?

Yeah. Just a darker version of the regular colors. Swimming and eating like a pig.

Image tags are on three posts here now and not showing up when I load the page. But they show up in my albums... are others seeing them here?

That is strange idk what it is! As long as he's eating and overall acts healthy I would keep observing him. The is a condition called hemorrhaged Septicemia were you will notice red lines or patches usually at the base of the fins and stretching into the fin
Make sure water quality is good and feed him some Selcon or vitachem

Ok, raised usually means an injury. I would say you're dealing with a bacterial infection. Something of this magnitude I would treat with the trifecta(furan 2, metroplex, and kanaplex)

This needs to be done in a QT. If you can't catch him, you could try kanaplex bound to food with focus.

Is this a new fish or have you had it awhile?

That's a good idea on Kanaflex. I forgot to mix it into my med blend this time.

And then knocked over my bottle that only had a bit left.

Fish is new. But no QT. I thought the coloration was just stress but it didn't go away and for a radiant he proved remarkably calm. Didn't bury for hrs and constantly feeding. No change in appearance or behavior so I don't think it's uronema as that is said to be a rapid killer.

Since he is new, what to look out for is this being gram negative. Gram positive bacteria seems to live in tanks and won't effect fish till they are injured.

I personally would try and pull him and treat. There really is no way to know though.

Another possibility is fish TB. This is also transferable to humans.

I missed any mention in that link about red blotches. But anyway I think it isn't that.

Hopefully not bacterial but since he is eating the food if it is...

No it does not directly mention red blotches but it mentions external lesions which appear dark. Google pictures of fish TB and you will see the dark lesions.

As I stated earlier, I never said it was TB, but looking at pictures and the picture you provided, they aren't too far off.

I have had fish with red blotches, they were all raised though, I'm assuming from an injury. With time they healed. Yours looks like it is part of the skin which leads me to believe it may be gram negative. Hopefully the focus/kanaplex will take care of you.
